Thomas J. Quinn CAO 2010 Guest Speaker
Pickering Museum Village Foundation is pleased to have Tom Quinn, retiring CAO of the City of Pickering as the guest speaker at this special Annual General Meeting while we celebrate the completion of the restoration of the Brougham Temperance House.
Thomas J. Quinn started his career in Pickering 40 years ago. Over the past four decades, Mr. Quinn has earned the moniker of ‘Mr. Pickering’, due to his involvement in the majority of Pickering’s key municipal projects and endeavours, as well as his hands-on collaboration with an immeasurable number of politicians, staff, residents, sports clubs, community groups and businesses. During his tenure, he has held a variety of senior management positions including Director, Parks & Recreation; Director, Community Services and Facilities, Executive Director, Operations; ultimately becoming the Chief Administrative Officer in 1996.
With a broad and diverse list of accomplishments over his 40 years of service Mr. Quinn has made significant contributions to the community. As an example, over 30 years ago Mr. Quinn was instrumental in the move of the heritage buildings from Brougham to the Pickering Museum Village site in Greenwood. This was the beginning of a legacy that Pickering is proud to be part of. Pickering Museum Village is an award winning museum, with 15 restored buildings which comprise a quaint pioneer village known across the Province. Mr. Quinn is also extremely proud of the leadership role he played in bringing the Pickering Recreation Complex from concept to reality. Since it opened its doors over 25 years ago, the Pickering Recreation Complex has won numerous international and industry awards. More importantly, it became the heart and soul of a fledgling community, and helped Pickering evolve from a sleepy little town to a bustling young city. There are too many contributions to list, but Mr. Quinn is content in the knowledge that he has been integral in laying the foundation for a truly wonderful community for both families and businesses alike.
Mr. Quinn retired at the end of May to devote his undivided time and energy to his family; namely, his wife Charley, two sons Sean and Ryan, and daughter Erin.
The AGM will start at 7:00 pm in the Redman House Program Centre at Pickering Museum Village, Greenwood. There will be a short business meeting followed at 7:30 by Tom Quinn's amusing "Museum Memories".
Membership not required to this free event, only to vote, nominate or stand for a director.

Details of 2009 AGM
Pickering Museum Village Foundation is delighted to be able to announce that Darryl Withrow, a member of the PMV Woodwright’s Guild, will be the guest speaker at the upcoming June 17, 2009 Annual General Meeting. Until now, Darryl has kept his presentations about his in depth study of Rebellion Boxes restricted to museum staff and volunteers. Members of the public will be able to gain a better understanding of how and why these works of arts were created by Canadian prisoners back in the 1830-40s and Darryl will bring 16 replica boxes for all to see and hold.
Pat Dunnill, chair of the PMVF says “Darryl’s research into these artifacts and time in Canada adds another dimension to the 1837 Rebellion and the museum village’s annual production of "A Spirit Walk". We are very lucky to have him share his knowledge with us."
Darryl has recently co-written a book with Chris Raible and John Carter on the boxes called From Hands Now Striving to be Free and will be pleased to autograph a copy for you.
